Auditions

Now accepting online video submissions for the children’s role of Benji.  We will be looking to cast three children to share the role of Benji throughout the season of Priscilla.

Benji

Benji is a heartwarming and pivotal character in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He is the sweet and accepting young son of Tick/Mitzi (Drag Queen) and Marion (Hotel Entertainment Manager). Benji represents unconditional love and is the reason for Tick’s journey of self-discovery.  Benji is about 8 years old, bright, kind, and mature for his age.

• Male with a playing age of an 8 year old (suggested ages between 8–11 years).

• Vocal Range: Unbroken voice (A3–D5).

• Approximate height of 140cm.

• Confident on stage with a strong acting and singing ability.

• Great energy and personality.

• Have a willingness to dive into a fun and uplifting production.

Additional information:

• Musical theatre experience preferred but not required.

• All ethnic groups are welcome.

Video audition submissions

To be received by 5 pm on Friday, 30th May.

The audition submissions will need to include:

• A completed audition form (available for download on the link below).

• A recent headshot.

• A video of you performing the audition materials detailed below.

Please film the videos horizontally and in a well-lit space (not backlit). You are welcome to film your self-tape on a mobile device, so long as the video and audio quality allows the casting team to get an accurate sense of your child's acting and singing abilities.

Once you are ready to submit, please upload your video(s) to Google Drive, DropBox, YouTube, etc. and email the viewable link(s) and your other required materials to priscilla25civic@gmail.com

All video audition submissions must be submitted no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, 30th May. Any video auditions submitted after this time will not be able to be viewed by the casting team.

What should you prepare for the audition

• Please prepare the audition dialogue side that is downloadable below.  

• Please prepare the music excerpt that is downloadable below.  Please use the backing track provided as the backing music when recording this excerpt. 

• Please download the audition form below, complete the details and attach to the email when sending the video submission.  

• Please attach a recent headshot or close up photo of your child to the email with the video submission. 

Location and commitment

Rehearsals for Priscilla will commence from the last weekend of June, and continue through to the 12th of September. The venue for rehearsals will be at North Shore Music Theatre, Birkenhead.  The season at the Civic Theatre will run from the 12th of September to the 5th October 2025.

The role of Benji will only be required for limited rehearsals through the rehearsal period.  The days required will increase in the later part of August and early September.
