What you need for your audition

Roles available

We are actively seeking a diverse cast, and welcome auditions from people of all ethnicities, gender identities, body types, ages and abilities.

There are eight principal roles and 12 ensemble/cover roles for which we will be auditioning.

ANNE/APRIL

  • Stage age: 30 – mid 40s

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: G3 - top D5 full belt.

  • The strong-willed wife of Shakespeare who doubles as Juliet’s best friend. Older than her husband, and in many ways wiser, she is his biggest fan, but also his sharpest critic. Recognising the parallels between Romeo & Juliet and her own life, Anne’s determination to see Juliet persevere is deeply personal. As she writes herself into the new play as April, we see the fun-loving side of Anne that she hasn’t explored in years.

MAY

  • Stage age: 20 - 30

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: G3 - Bb4

  • Loving and always supportive of Juliet, May is a young person discovering who they are in the world. An ideal companion for a trip to Paris with Juliet, May sees an opportunity to start fresh and finds a newfound strength while fighting for a life-changing relationship.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

  • Stage age: 30 – mid 40s

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: G3 - A4 (or ideally C5)

  • Handsome, famous, and endlessly aware of his own wit, William Shakespeare is the jolly leader of his company of Players, until his wife Anne begins to question his authority. William enjoys the spirited competition that ensues, and brings a mischievous spirit to rewriting with Anne, until it becomes clear that much more than the fate of his play is at stake, and he is forced to re-examine his priorities.

ROMEO

  • Stage age: 20 - 30

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: G3 - A4

  • Juliet’s first love is a notorious womanizer, in love with love, and above all, a drama queen, but he is also a true romantic whose feelings for Juliet go beyond anything he has experienced before. As he comes to terms with mistakes of the past, he, too, is longing for a second chance.

FRANÇOIS

  • Stage age: 20 - 30

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: C#3 - F#4 or G#4

  • A misunderstood French musician with a playful sense of humour. Like Juliet, Francois is inexperienced in the ways of love and is dealing with an overly controlling parent. Through Juliet, he develops the courage that will open up a world of possibilities.

LANCE

  • Stage age: 40 – 50s

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: A2 - Eb4. (lowest notes can be a talk/sing if necessary)

  • Francois’ father, a burly former soldier. As a widowed single parent, Lance only wants a better life for his son, but the weight of his expectations is driving a wedge between them. This changes, however, when an unexpected reunion with an ex-lover restores the twinkle to Lance’s eye, and he is reminded of the complicated nature of finding true love.

LADY CAPULET/ENSEMBLE

  • Stage age: 25 - 45+

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal Range: sings to a minimum D5 belt.

  • Lady Capulet/Nell is stern and controlling as Juliet's mother, but when she's in Player mode, she really lets her hair down and has a good time. Lady Capulet will also be part of the ensemble.

LORD CAPULET/ENSEMBLE

  • Stage age: 25-45+

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal Range: needs to sing to A4.

  • Lord Capulet/Sly is domineering and intense when he's Juliet's dad, but cheeky and energetic when he's one of Shakespeare's Players. Lord Capulet will also be part of the ensemble.

ENSEMBLE/COVER ROLES (approx 10-12 roles available)

  • Age range: 18 - 40

  • Ethnicity: Any

  • Vocal range: strong singing is required for some tracks

  • Strong dance is required, with contemporary dance styles preferred to classical (Hip Hop, Breaking, Jazz Funk etc.) with a fantastic stage presence.

About the show

& Juliet is the most famous love story of all time.... remixed. This hilarious and fun-loving hit Broadway musical asks: what if Juliet’s famous ending was really just her beginning? What if she decided to choose her own fate?

Soaring with pop anthems from the catalogue of Max Martin, including ...Baby One More Time, Everybody (Backstreet's Back), Since U Been Gone and Can’t Feel My Face; & Juliet is a riotous blast of fun and glorious music that proves when it comes to love, there’s always life after Romeo…
